Sage sticks are commonly used to help cleanse/purify self, a home or space and to protect from and ward off negative energy or entities. Many people smudge their new home when they move in to help create a 'clean slate' energetically and remove any lingering unwanted energies.
You may also feel after interactions with negative people that you have the impulse to cleanse yourself or perhaps you want to cleanse items like crystals or personal belongings. Especially things that have come from unknown previous owners (ie purchased second hand) or in general to remove the energies of anyone who has handled said items before you came into possession of it.
Sage also has powerful anti bacterial properties and helps improve air cleanliness and quality. It is very grounding and calming too so idea for meditation.
